Chevron Wall Panel in Solid Oak

The CHV-OK is a chevron wall panel built from solid oak strips set at opposing angles. The geometry is the point. Each column of strips meets the next at a V, and because the grain on each side runs in a different direction, each column catches light differently.

Stand directly in front of the panel and the contrast reads soft — oak's lighter ground holds the columns close in tone. Move off-axis, walk past at an angle, change the lamp or the time of day — and the columns sharpen into alternating bright and shadowed bands, the chevron resolving fully. The pattern is most alive in passing.

Under raking light or directional spots the effect is at its clearest — alternating bright and shadowed columns. At scale, on a long wall or full-height feature, the columns resolve into a three-dimensional read, the surface appearing folded rather than flat. Under softer ambient light the chevron settles into a quieter geometric weave, oak's even tone keeping the pattern from dominating the scheme it sits in.

Material and Finish options

Moisture Resistant

Finish: Base coat of penetrating hydrophobic oil, two top coats of semimat Osmo Hard Wax Oil (optional UV protection can be specified)

Base: 6 or 9mm birch plywood, sealed with a PVA coat (marine plywood can be specified).

Glue: D4 PVA

Suited to: interior areas with frequent, short-term exposure to moisture and high humidity, such as kitchens and bathroom applications in zones 2 and 3

LEED upgrade

Both the moisture-resistant and fire-retardant variants can be specified to meet LEED requirements. The upgrade covers FSC-certified hardwood, no-added-formaldehyde plywood, and low-VOC adhesives and finishes— supporting credits in Materials & Resources (responsible sourcing, EPD/HPD) and Indoor Environmental Quality (low-emitting materials).

Fire Retardant

Two finishing options. Thermoguard Fire Varnish where UV protection is required; the Rubio Monocoat FR Oil System otherwise — oil is the preferred finish, retaining the natural feel and tonal depth of the timber that a varnish would seal over.

IMO Marine specification

For installations on yachts and cruise ships, the IMO version, built with the materials tested at the standards required to support compliance with IMO 2010 FTP Code Part 5 (surface flammability). Test data and material declarations are supplied with the order. Final IMO / MED certification, class society approval, and flag-state acceptance are the buyer's responsibility — Artimatum is not a certifying body.

Pattern options

Three things shape the finished wall
the tile itself, the way it's installed, and what it's combined with.

Spacing

Tiles install flush for a continuous chevron field, or with spacing between columns to break the pattern into discrete bays. The reveal is colour-filled (painted, any tone) or filled with contrasting wooden slats. Spaced tiles are built with a recessed plywood backing — a different build from the flush standard.

Column and tile width

(customisation options)

Column widths can be customised to suit the installation space — wider columns for large, tall walls, narrower columns for residential interiors. Tile width within each column sets the density. Both chosen at order.

Vertical linear sections

For layered, two-pattern compositions, CHV-W combines with plain vertical-strip sections — installed alongside the chevron as a base band, top band, mirrored across a centre band, or interior zone. Sold as a separate product.
